POLYMASON

Low poly silver birch tree, built to your size

A low poly silver birch tree made with PolyMason
888 triangles at 8.5 m, as PolyMason proposes it

Build this silver birch

Hairline white trunk, long bare stem, loose cluster canopy. As proposed, the silver birch tree is 888 triangles at 8.5 m, with foliage as clumps of leaves. You can take it from 6 to 11 m, and every other control stays within what a silver birch tree can be.

After the pine, the silver birch is the tree most people add to a low poly forest next. The reason is the white trunk, which shows up as a bright line in a dark scene. It has a very thin trunk, a long bare stem, and a loose cluster of foliage near the top. It suits the edge of a northern forest, a bog, a Scandinavian or Russian setting, or a fall level in yellow.

Bark color matters most. The builder proposes whites and pale grays for the trunk, and a dark second green on the clumps gives it the contrast it needs. Keep the trunk thin, because a thick birch starts to look like an aspen. Birches grow in groups, so build two or three at different heights and place them together. The young and sapling versions help with that, since a real stand of birches includes trees of every age.

What you can change

  • Trunk: height, diameter, taper, sides, lean, curve and gnarl, with bark from the species' colors or any color you pick.
  • Boughs: count, rings or spiral, where they leave the trunk, angle, length, thickness, curve, and twigs.
  • Foliage: style, size, spread, complexity (your triangle budget) and two greens.
  • Export: LOD1 and LOD2, sapling and young versions, dead, stump, felled, logs and billboards.

The export is a zip with OBJ, STL and 3MF. The OBJ uses the shared palette texture and has flat normals in the file. Models are in meters and stand at the origin, and the zip includes whichever levels of detail and other versions you select. The trees page covers the formats, and the OBJ guide covers importing.

Questions

How many triangles is the silver birch tree?
888 as proposed. The complexity slider takes it down to a few hundred or up for a hero tree, and the export adds LOD1 and LOD2.
Can I change the height?
Yes, between 6 and 11 m, and the trunk's diameter, taper and lean with it.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no limit on downloads.
Can I use it in a commercial game?
Everything you build here is yours. Use it in any project, commercial or not, with no attribution required.
