Build this cedar of Lebanon

Massive trunk, huge level boughs in layers, flat plates of foliage. As proposed, the cedar of Lebanon tree is 8,744 triangles at 14.0 m, with foliage as clumps of leaves. You can take it from 10 to 18 m, and every other control stays within what a cedar of Lebanon tree can be.

The cedar of Lebanon is a big parkland tree. It has a massive trunk and huge level boughs stacked in layers, and each bough ends in a flat plate of foliage, so the tree looks like a set of shelves. Use it on the grounds of a large estate, in a temple garden, at an ancient site, or on a mountainside in the Levant. It works anywhere you want one tree that looks centuries old.

Most of the work is in the layers. Bough count sets how many shelves you get, and bough angle keeps them level. If you lower the angle much, it stops looking like a cedar. The foliage is clumps flattened into plates, and the spread control makes those plates wider or tighter. You'll usually place only one or two of these, so it's fine to raise the complexity and save triangles elsewhere. The stump and the felled trunk are large enough to use as set pieces.

What you can change

  • Trunk: height, diameter, taper, sides, lean, curve and gnarl, with bark from the species' colors or any color you pick.
  • Boughs: count, rings or spiral, where they leave the trunk, angle, length, thickness, curve, and twigs.
  • Foliage: style, size, spread, complexity (your triangle budget) and two greens.
  • Export: LOD1 and LOD2, sapling and young versions, dead, stump, felled, logs and billboards.

The export is a zip with OBJ, STL and 3MF. The OBJ uses the shared palette texture and has flat normals in the file. Models are in meters and stand at the origin, and the zip includes whichever levels of detail and other versions you select. The trees page covers the formats, and the OBJ guide covers importing.

Questions

How many triangles is the cedar of Lebanon tree?
8,744 as proposed. The complexity slider takes it down to a few hundred or up for a hero tree, and the export adds LOD1 and LOD2.
Can I change the height?
Yes, between 10 and 18 m, and the trunk's diameter, taper and lean with it.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no limit on downloads.
Can I use it in a commercial game?
Everything you build here is yours. Use it in any project, commercial or not, with no attribution required.
