POLYMASON

Low poly olive tree, built to your size

A low poly olive tree made with PolyMason
3,200 triangles at 4.5 m, as PolyMason proposes it

Build this olive

A short twisted trunk under a rounded silver-green crown. As proposed, the olive tree is 3,200 triangles at 4.5 m, with foliage as clumps of leaves. You can take it from 3 to 6 m, and every other control stays within what an olive tree can be.

The olive is the grove tree of the Mediterranean. It has a short, twisted trunk under a rounded, silver-green crown. Use it for Greece, Provence, Andalusia, a biblical setting, a terraced Italian hillside, or the courtyard of a villa. Old olive trees are known for hollow, knotted trunks, and the gnarl control is how you get that.

For the foliage, pick a gray-green pair and push the lighter one well toward silver. Gnarl and curve shape the trunk. A young olive is straight and thin, and you can see that in the sapling version. Growers plant olives in grids on terraces and keep them at about the same height, so a grove is one tree placed many times. Let the lower levels of detail and a billboard handle the far rows. The stump is useful as well, because olives get cut back hard and then regrow from the base.

What you can change

  • Trunk: height, diameter, taper, sides, lean, curve and gnarl, with bark from the species' colors or any color you pick.
  • Boughs: count, rings or spiral, where they leave the trunk, angle, length, thickness, curve, and twigs.
  • Foliage: style, size, spread, complexity (your triangle budget) and two greens.
  • Export: LOD1 and LOD2, sapling and young versions, dead, stump, felled, logs and billboards.

The export is a zip with OBJ, STL and 3MF. The OBJ uses the shared palette texture and has flat normals in the file. Models are in meters and stand at the origin, and the zip includes whichever levels of detail and other versions you select. The trees page covers the formats, and the OBJ guide covers importing.

Questions

How many triangles is the olive tree?
3,200 as proposed. The complexity slider takes it down to a few hundred or up for a hero tree, and the export adds LOD1 and LOD2.
Can I change the height?
Yes, between 3 and 6 m, and the trunk's diameter, taper and lean with it.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no limit on downloads.
Can I use it in a commercial game?
Everything you build here is yours. Use it in any project, commercial or not, with no attribution required.
